"I'm always frustrated writing songs as a bass player. It's like a jigsaw puzzle. I hear the finished song in my mind, but of course no one else does. The drums are the biggest hurdle. I can't record a final bass track until I see how the final drums work. I don't play piano, and I'm not that proficient on guitar, so trying to teach a drummer a song he can't hear is a real challenge. Recording drums is quite complex anyway. I usually end up with 13-15 tracks of drum stems to import into a new song. I'm not a competent drummer, and I lack a dedicated drum studio. For all of these reasons I turned to Fred Fischer to help me produce better sounding recordings. Fred learns my songs, every little accent, change, stop....and he's a human metronome. I very quickly get everything I need to get a new song going.
